Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130830-56553-2147452510. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: GE The model # is -JGBS60DEK6WW.. Source model text: JVM1750SM1SS. Incident: On August 27, 2013 I woke up at 2:00am. To the sound of the microwave running. I got up and saw it was on. Everyone in the house was asleep. I turned it off and removed a pan that was inside. I had forgotten that I left the pan in the microwave from dinner, 7 hours before. When I opened the door i noticed that there was a spot on the door where it almost burned through. I pushed the clear button numerous times and went back to bed, only to be woken up twice more by the microwave turning itself on again. Each time the microwave read, sensor error. At that point I was so frightened that it would burn the house down that I unplugged the unit and have not used it since. I am afraid that if I plug it in it will start up again. It is a GE model JVM1750SM1SS, serial number RR902672B, manufactured August 2008. I contacted the manufacturer and am waiting to hear back from them but in the mean time I am concerned for anyone else that owns this model. It may end up killing a family while they are sleeping.
