Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130917-5D616-2147451853. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS. Source model text: GLEFM397DQB). Incident: Last night I just got done pulling a turkey tenderloin out of my ELECTRIC FRIGIDAIRE GALLERY SERIES OVEN (Serial #: VF51645500, Model #: GLEFM397DQB) purchased in and around 2004 or 2005 when without any warning or prior malfunction whatsoever, I hear loud electrical buzzing and popping as the control panel on the back of the stove top begins to arc and flames climb up the wall from the back of the panel with billowing acrid, black smoke. Thankfully, the circuit breaker popped and miraculously the flames did not catch anything that could cause my entire wall, kitchen and house to go up in flames. Once things were under control and I gathered my composure, I of course googled this brand and found hundreds of complaints regarding similar issues for this model. While I realize that this piece of [REDACTED] (and those made by most manufacturers) are designed these days to break down in 8 to 10 years to force you into expensive repairs or an entirely new unit, I am positively OUTRAGED that something as dangerous as an electrical fire is how it went out. While I can only attest to my own first hand experience, I am extremely disturbed that I read complaints where these units have turned themselves on by themselves and will not go off unless they are shut down at the electrical panel. Why hasn't this garbage been RECALLED before someone is severely burned and there is major property loss or even loss of life? Though my knees have still not stopped shaking, I thank God I was home whe
