Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130920-C4DDA-2147451698. Matched catalog product: Sharp The model is SMC2265KS.. Source model text: R-1214F. Incident: I have a Sharp Over the Counter Microwave, Model # R-1214F, Serial # 418658. It is 6 years old. Yesterday it began turning itself on and then running. There was nothing inside but the carousel turned and the light was on just as if I had turned it on. It would not stop if I pressed the stop button. Instead, I had to open the door. It did this repeatedly, which I found frightening because I assume it could be a fire hazard. I unplugged the microwave and also sent an e-mail to Sharp USA. What should I do? I know I will have to replace it but I don't want someone else to try to use it so I think it should be destroyed unless it can be repaired.
