Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131002-D2B2B-2147451286. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Char-broil Quickset 2-burner gas grill (Char-broil Quickset 2-burner gas grill). Incident: I am contacting you to report a safety issue with a Char-broil Quickset grill purchased from Lowe's. The grill caught on fire after only the 2nd time of use. It was clean and kept covered during unuse. Went inside to get the meat to put on, and when I returned, flames were pouring out the front and sides. I couldn't turn the grill off because the knobs had melted, disintegrated, and fallen off. Heat was so hot it also melted the ignituion button. The only way I was able to extinguish the fire enough to turn it off directly at the propane tank was by spraying water on it. The grill is now unusable. I am so glad I had pulled the grill two feet away from my house, because my 12 yr old was inside the adjoining room and I shudder to think what could have happened if the tank had exploded or the the house caught fire. This grill is a safety hazard and needs to be removed from the market or recalled. While checking online, I found over 100 similar incidents and complaints reported on Char-broil grills at http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/char-broil.html?page=2. This company is being irresponsible by ignoring the multipe incidents and acting like it is consumer error. This is only the small handful of people who reported the issues. Many people do not report incidents.
