Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20131209-51448-2147449187. Matched catalog product: Apple Ipad. Incident: My wife's iPad charger was plugged into an outlet today and the USB port end burned up. It was not plugged into the device. I noticed a strong smell of something electrical burning and a haze in the room. I unplugged everything including the charger and the smell went away. We later discovered the end which plugs into the iPad was burnt and part of the plastic had melted. We went to an Apple store and they claimed it looked like the USB end got wet, therefore, causing an issue when it was plugged in. The charger never got wet.
