Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140123-5F93C-2147447918. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Anchor Hocking Anchor Hocking 1-cup Glass Measuring Cup. Incident: a glass measuring cup received this Christmas made by Anchor Hocking, used maybe 6 times , exploded into pieces while inside a closed kitchen cabinet. My husband and I heard a loud "explosion" come from the kitchen on Monday evening, Jan.20th. We wentintokitchen and started looking around to see what the noise was, it had sounded like glass shattering. After checking inside refrigerator, dishwasher ,etc. I started opening kitchen cupboards . Much to my dismay when I opened one cabinet, glass started tumbling out onto the countertops, the toaster got covered in glass, had glass fall actually inside the toaster, assume the suction from opening cabinet caused it to start falling everywhere. What a shock, a complete mess, this cabinet is at face level, I am so grateful this cup didn't decide to shatter while a person was opening the cabinet., have never seen any of the numerous glass products we have owned over the years do this. After doing a lot of vacuuming and wiping down, everything in the cabinet had to be washed , there were particles of glass everywhere!! I took photos of the glass, we had put as much as possible into a flat cardboard box to be able to clean the cabinet. On Tuesday a.m. I put an inquiry/complaint into Anchor Hocking asking why would this happen, is this product that unsafe? As of this a.m. 48hrs later they have not responded to me, I did get a confirmation e mail immediately from the company saying they would contact me , but I think its been long enough.I
