Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140219-4318B-2147447135. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Sony NP-FX110 (Lithium ion rechargeable battery). Incident: While my friend was watching a movie on a portable DVD player, the battery swelled up and cracked open the housing, identically to the existing report on this product at www.saferproducts.gov/ViewIncident/1351022 The DVD player, Sony model DVP-FX810, was undamaged and still functional using its AC adaptor. The battery model is Sony NP-FX110. The unit was purchased from RadioShack on 11/30/2010 and had previously been used in the store as a demo unit for an unknown duration. Apparently you have reported this as not being a safety concern, my view is that an incident of this nature is a safety hazard and apparently not an isolated case. For example how do I properly dispose of this battery? New batteries are no longer available from Sony Corp. and are apparently only available on eBay and similar sites.
