Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140223-00EF8-2147447021. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart DGB 700. Source model text: Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB 700BC. Incident: I made coffee with my Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB 700BC this morning - there was still about 2 cups of coffee in the carafe and the warm function was on. Luckily I was nearby - I heard a boiling sound and went toward the sound which turned out to be the coffee which was boiling in the carafe. As I approached I noticed smoke coming from the base of the unit and a smell of burning plastic/electric components. I quickly unplugged the unit and removed it to a safer surface. I am sure that there would have been a fire if I had not been close by and acted quickly. I have investigated and note that there are others who have had this same problem with this coffee maker as noted on Complaints.com and Amazon.com.
