Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140311-95D8D-2147446475. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS. Source model text: Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven model GLEB27S9DB. Incident: Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven model GLEB27S9DB serial number NF44713663 Even Cook Convection Oven with black smooth face and touch pad control panel. Purchased November 28, 2004. I set the oven to convection bake 425 degrees, and in just a few minutes it started making a crackling noise. I turned around and saw sparks in the oven compartment. The control panel started flashing and the "locked" symbol illuminated and smoke started to come out of the vents. The was a strong electrical fire smell. the oven door was locked and the control panel would not respond, so I turned off the circuit breaker. The door remained locked. Removed the control panel and the ribbon relay was scorched. We have damage to the cabinet above the control panel. Fear we would have had far more extensive damage had I not been within arms reach of the oven when the issue occurred.
