Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140502-51F5B-2147444872. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. P100N30AP-F4 (Black Hamilton Beach microwave model P100N30AP-F4). Incident: I have a Hamilton Beach microwave (model P100N30AP-F4) which I bought from Wal-Mart about 6-8 months ago. Prior to that, I had bought the same microwave without keeping the receipt and encountered the same issue after having the microwave for fewer than 4 months. I thought it was surely just the one microwave that was defective, so I accepted their store policy of exchanging the broken one for one of the same model. At night, I was awoken by a fan noise and went out of my room to see what it was. The microwave had turned on by itself, and had set the timer to a very long time. This is alarming because it has happened with two microwaves of the same model and seems to happen spontaneously. The first time I noticed it, over 8 months ago, I was coming home from work and as soon as I walked in the door I found that the microwave was on! This is obviously a fire hazard. With nothing inside the microwave, the magnetron on the first microwave I bought had burned itself out.
