Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140618-EF0BF-2147443594. Matched catalog product: HP dv7 (Pavilion laptop). Source model text: HP Pavilion dv7t-6b00 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Noteboo. Incident: HP dv7 - quad-core notebook pc has always run warmer than other notebook pc's. And I thought it was normal until I pulled my notebook pc out of my bookbag and the back covering had melted. The notebook was in hibernation mode, which means that it is completely shut off with the immediate memory written onto the hard drive. This allows the system to boot up much quicker than a normal starting procedure. The system was not overly hot when I put the notebook pc in my bookbag before heading to class and the battery was still fully charged when I found the back panel melted. HP claims that the case melted due to a clogged heat sink and sent me pictures of the heat sink. There was dust and dog hair on the heat sink but I do not think that it was by any means "clogged." The dv7 model has received numerous complaints regarding heat issues and I did not think that a laptop could melt before this incident occurred.
