Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140630-0C819-1414078. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Speed-Queen AWN412 (Top Loading Washer). Incident: vSpeed-Queen washer purchased 01/2011 - It had been checked by a service tech after it stopped working and wouldn't start again but while the tech was there the machine began working again although he said there was nothing wrong with it. April 9th, 2014 this caller heard humming noise but couldn't figure out where it was coming from, a little while later she went to her utility room to check on the clothes she had in the washer and smelled a strong odor of burning electric. She found also that the circuit breaker had tripped. The caller checked the plug in area and it seemed fine, then she went to the breaker and tripped it back on to allow her clothes to complete the wash cycle. The washer only hummed: it would not run. She contacted the retailer and informed them of the incident and that she had tripped the breaker back on but [REDACTED] who is the manager at Lipscombe Appliance, Inc. advised her to unplug the machine then he scheduled maintenance/service tech for April 11th, 2014. The technician determined that this washer needed a timer and a motor but they did not have either part. The caller asked if they had a new washer on their floor, the technician checked with the store, found that they did then caller purchased it and allowed the retailer to take the non working washer back. The caller stated that the manufacturer had advised her that they would pay for the two parts for her washer but she had found a report submitted by another consumer who said her washer with the same model number had been repaired and then when she was using it she not only smelled burning
