Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140711-546A6-2147442957. Matched catalog product: Shark S3501. Source model text: S3501A. Incident: I plugged in my Shark Steam Mop and waited for it to steam which typically takes about 30 seconds. This time, it did not steam. I pumped the handle a couple of times to ensure that water was being pushed into the heating mechanism, and still no steam. I checked the water level and verified that there was an adequate amount of water. I wondered if the mop head had been put on backwards, so I unplugged the mop, and since the mop showed no signs of steaming, proceeded to remove the mop head. Once I did this, a huge amount of steam spewed out of the handle/steam device, nearly burning me! I'm really lucky that I wasn't pointing it at my face!
