Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140910-462D6-2147441064. Severity: Unspecified. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool Model No: WMC30516HB 0. Incident: A Central Air-conditioner condensing unit located at a house I own caught on fire which burned up all of the electronics and even destroyed the inside thermostat. We checked for lighting damage and there was none, neither the unit or the house was struck nor was their any power surge. The unit was replaced before I was able to get the model and serial numbers when I asked what happen to the unit I was told it was scrapped. The unit was only 2-3 years old so at first I was trying to get the manufacturer to honor the warranty, but I had no paperwork on the unit so I did not try to even contact the manufacturer. Then I thought there are probably other similar units out there and did some checking and found out that this unit was discontinued, it was a whirlpool. Was it discontinued because of a fault ? I am in the process of trying to find paperwork, I have the installer information and the distributor where the unit was bought. Contact me if that information is needed.
