Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20140911-B50C1-2147441026. Matched catalog product: Samsung Samsung Galaxy S10FE 5G tablet and tablet cover. Source model text: SEE ABOVE. Incident: My Samsung Microwave Oven is approximately 3 years and 7 months old. It has worked well for all this time. However I returned from a 2 day trip and was sitting in the family room and suddenly the microwave came on with the window stating POPCORN. I never use that function but it was running full blast empty which causes it to heat up very quickly without something to absorb the rays to heat. that cabinet got very hot fast. I pushed the stop/clear button and it went to time. I decided to reset it like the instructions stated by unplugging it for 10-12 seconds and then plug into power. It came on ready to set the clock again which I did. however in less than 2 minutes it came on again to POPCORN and the inside plate was turning it had full power. If this had occurred while I was gone it could have resulted in a serious kitchen fire..I have heard of the before but never thought a good product like Samsung would do that. The vendor RC WILLEY was notified of the incident. I had a 5 year warranty on it. They called back and stated that ti would cost more to fix it than to get a new one and told me to come in and pick out any brand I wanted and they would uninstall the defective one and install a new one.\
