Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141118-4FCFF-2147438747. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.9446.3700. Source model text: 790.94453700. Incident: Kenmore Elite Smooth top range Model #790.94453700 Serial # VF74441886. We had cooked some biscuits on the convection setting @ 350 degrees for 14 minutes. We were sitting in the living room after dinner and heard a strange noise coming from the kitchen. We ran into the kitchen to see flames and smoke pouring out from behind the stove. I ran to the oven and tried to pull it out and realized I should shut of the breaker first. After flipping off the breaker, we pulled out the oven to see it was still on fire. We were able to put out the fire with water. After letting the range cool down, I pulled it out the rest of the way and saw the fire had started at the pigtail mounting block. It had completely melted down and caught the rest of the wiring in the back of the unit on fire and had burnt a hole in the wall behind the range. The wall is also covered with dark black soot from the fire.
