Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141130-49B10-2147438385. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Lenovo Think Pad T410 2518 QBU (laptop) (Lenovo Think Pad Laptop Model # T410 2518QBU Li-ion Laptop Battery). Incident: I own a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. Model T410 2518QBU. The laptop battery started to smoke & was very hot. I removed the battery immediately. After researching on Lenovo's web site, I learned that the batteries for these particular laptops have been recalled. I called Lenovo support. After giving all of my information to a gentlleman, "[REDACTED]", at Lenovo's tech support ctr, located in Georgia, he told me that HE COULD NOT ASSIST me, as my waranty had expired. True. It has. I asked to speak to his Supervisor. T o which he replied, My Supervisor will NOT speak to you & neither will I, as your waranty has expired. He proceeded to inform me that He would be hanging up the phone, as I tried to inquire WHY the waranty would prevent him from helping me with a smoking recalled battery. HE HUNG UP ON ME!! Regardless of waranty, MY BATTERY overheated & started smoking! I will NOT place the battery back nside of my laptop, as it could possibly melt other parts & ruin my laptop. I went online & looked up the battery recall details.wHEN TYPING IN THE BAR CODE ON MY BATTERY, it told me that my battery was NOT eligible for replacement. Can someone PLEASE tell me WHY an overheated smoking battery is NOT eligible for a recall replacement? I Understand that the battery bar code determines eligibility. Does this mean that my battery, also made in China, isnt DANGEROUS? My info Lenovo T410 ThinkPad (laptop) Model Type 2518QBU My S/N R8-E85F5 My battery's bar code # 11S42T4798Z1ZJ3J083442 Thank you, [REDACTED]
