Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20141229-D106E-2147437283. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.92303010. Source model text: 790.96053004. Incident: Kenmore Electric Range, model 790.98053004 purchased from Sears about two years ago. The rack in the bottom oven is not sturdy enough. When roasting something heavy such as a turkey or ham, the rack slips out of the track on one side causing the pan and contents to fall to the bottom of the oven at an angle. This is because the rack sags in the middle due to the weight, pulling the rack out of the track. The weight is not excessive. The rack should be able to handle a 10 pound turkey! The rack slips especially when sliding it out to check the cooking progress or to baste etc. Very dangerous since the hot contents of the pan spill and splash all over the oven possibly starting a fire and burning the person. This has occurred on Dec. 24, 2014 and several times previously.
