Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150108-1786F-2147436792. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart TOB-40. Incident: Purchased a Cuisinart TOB-40 Custom Classic Toaster Oven Broiler in March 2011. In May, 2014 one of the four heating elements developed a split in the outer covering. As time passed the split became bigger and started glowing very hot and red. I finally realized that this is a fire hazard, as it became more scary to use the appliance. I called Cuisinart customer service, but they told me that the 3 year warranty expired March, 2014 and they would not do anything about my problem. I am now out a toaster that lasted just over three years. Not only that, but the customer service representative seemed to be well aware of the problem. So if the Company knows that they are selling a defective and dangerous appliance, why have they not taken any steps to recall this product?
