Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150114-568CA-2147436506. Matched catalog product: Kidde P3010L. Incident: The house I am renting came equipped with several Kidde P3010L battery-only smoke alarms. Since we moved in, June 30, 2014, at least 5 of these alarms have gone off. Most of these have gone off when there was no discernible smoke, and nobody was cooking. These alarms are, amazingly, single-use, so when they go off we are left without alarms until they can be replaced. Because of the high failure rate, several rooms in the house have been left unprotected for lengths of time that seem unsafe. I searched online for this model, and saw that many users on Amazon.com have reported similar problems: http://www.amazon.com/Kidde-P3010L-Worry-Free-Photoelectric-Battery/dp/B00FHW7PI6/ref=sr_1_20?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1421273791&sr=1-20&keywords=kidde#customerReviews I also note that a superficially similar model by the same manufacturer was recently recalled: http://www.cpsc.gov/en/Recalls/2014/Kidde-Recalls-Smoke-and-Combination-SmokeCO-Alarms/
