Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150209-9A65A-2147435578. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Electrolux EW30EW65GB3 (Upper oven of a double oven wall set. Black on outside/blue on inside.). Incident: We built a brand new house and moved in February 2009. Our kitchen appliances were brand new Electrolux. We have had to call the service person to fix it for various problems at least 4 times, costing us over $1000 to repair. (First breakdown was 2 days after warranty expired). It has never worked well. On Jan. 31, 2014 it exploded. First there was a very LOUD electrical 'ZZZzzzt!', then a huge flash of white light like lightening and then it burst into flames. My husband was broiling the top of mac and cheese. If I had been standing there watching it like I usually do (he was standing there with his back turned momentarily), it would have caught my face on fire or blinded me. It was like an arch weld. The element blew up. We both love to cook and bake and have done it for decades. Neither of us has ever experienced anything like this in an electric or gas appliance. It was horrifying. Our house filled with smoke immediately. I called Electrolux and was given a recorded message to email the liability claims department which I did, and got no response. We had it repaired and now a year later, it does it AGAIN! This weekend (Feb 7, 2015) I was baking cookies. The first batch came out fine. I had put in the second batch and was preparing the next cookie sheet when I heard the oven fan go on and I a loud noise. I turned and the lights were all flashing on the control panel, the cookies were BLACK (had only been in the oven 3 minutes) and it did the same flash as before. I turned off the oven and the house filled with smoke. This oven should be taken off the market. It is danger
