Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150317-975E9-2147434504. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 148.45961610. Source model text: Model #148.23683310. Incident: I own a Kenmore Stainless Steel gas barbeque model #148.23683310. I purchased it two years ago. Last night while cooking for my family the floor of the fire box collapsed. The smoldering hot metal showered onto the propane tank and hoses below. This could have been a life threatening situation for all of us. I shut off the burners. I could not shut off the propane tank valve because it was covered in shards of smoldering hot rusty sheet metal. I had to anxiously wait far away for it to cool so I could shut the valve. I cannot fathom why a grill would be designed so poorly. The metal between the actual flames and the fuel source is paper thing steel that rusts away in less than two years creating a potentially grave situation!!
