Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150605-095CE-2147432301. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Model 790.xxxx. Source model text: Kenmore Elite 790. Incident: We purchased a Kenmore Elite Microwave/oven combination model 790 12/25/14 which was installed 1/12/15. The most recent problem on this unit is with the microwave. My son tried to warm up some food and the microwave (which had been working fine an hour before) began to hum loudly and glow orange inside. Within 2 seconds he hit the stop button and the microwave did turn off. When he opened the unit, smoke was coming out of top and there is a charred mark inside on the top (fire?) We are very worried. We have found numerous complaints the same and similar as ours regarding the Elite series appliances, and are concerned that this is just the beginning of issues with our purchase. Have called Sears for repair service, and they have scheduled a repair for next week.
