Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150820-A6890-2147429170. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Cuisinart DGB 700. Source model text: DGB-700BC. Incident: I have owned the Cuisinart DGB-700BC grind and brew coffee maker for several years. Yesterday, I was sitting in the kitchen and I heard a crackling sound coming from the coffee maker. The unit had automatically turned itself off as it does every day so it wasn't on, but it was plugged in. I went to check and see if something had gotten on the hotplate. It was super hot and smoke was rising from it. Then I noticed smoke coming out of the back of the coffee maker where the plug comes out. I immediately unplugged it. If I hadn't been home, this most certainly would have caused an electrical fire.
