Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150903-4D428-2147428762. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Apple Ipad. Incident: My wife plugged the Ipad 3 wall charger into her Ipad 3 a couple of evenings ago as she has done before, and when she returned the connector that connects to the Ipad 3 port had begun to melt and was very hot. There was also a burning smell in the room. I still have the cable. The Ipad 3 doesn't appear to have been damaged because we caught it in time. If this had been charging overnight, the damage would probably have been much worse. Nothing was done differently in charging the Ipad 3 this time versus other times. A different charger seems to be working fine so far for charging it, although much slower as it is a Iphone charger and apparently charges slower.
