Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20150905-F4EEB-2147428689. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.80323310. Source model text: 790. Incident: I bought a Kenmore electric range (model 790) in August of 2010. On August 31, 2015, the front oven glass door exploded throwing small glass pieces everywhere. I was just cooking some chicken in the oven at 350 degrees. I was lucky enough to not have been in front of the oven at the time. Had I been, I would have had bad injuries. I was also lucky in that my dog that usually lies in front of the oven when I am in the kitchen was not there either. Had he been, he would have had major injuries. I tried talking with someone at the Sears national number listed on the back of the manual for my oven only to get told they did not know how to handle such a thing and that I had to call my local store. After several tries to get a person on the phone here in Meridian, MS, I could never get anyone. I ended up having to go to the store in person. Unfortunately, no one there could help other than to replace the oven door which I would not want to do since this is NOT a normal wear and tear situation that I should be responsible to have to pay for. I found out online that the oven doors are apparently being made with inferior glass doors now and that hundreds of people are experiencing an exploding glass oven door. I feel, as others do, that this problem is due to a manufacturing defect and should be compensated by Sears. As I mentioned to you already, such an incident as this could have severely injured me or anyone else that could have been in front of that oven door when it exploded.
