Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20151023-5DE7E-2147427297. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Source model text: JWx23. Incident: I put water into the coffeemaker reservoir and turned it on to brew. After a couple of minutes, I smelled burning and the coffeemaker had smoke coming from the back of it. After unplugging it, I realized the bottom of the coffee maker had a melted hole in it, exposing the electrical parts . The coffee maker at that time had also started a burn hole in my counter top. The coffee maker hot plate detached from the bottom frame of the coffeemaker where you place the pot. The plastic is melted around where the hotplate connects to the bottom frame in addition to the hole on the bottom. I have contacted Mr. Coffee through e-mail. This was brand new purchased at Walmart. Please advise on this matter. I can e-mail photos and send product if Mr. Coffee reimburses for shipping. It was only twenty dollars but this could have been a fire situation. Thank-you. [REDACTED]
