Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160116-7C0C9-2147424632. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: GE CGS990SET3SS. Incident: I purchased a GE cafe series gas stove. I have had this product just under three years. This is a double oven and recently the bottom oven didn't work. I determined that the issue was the igniter, a common issue when gas ovens don't work. I proceeded to remove the bottom tray of the oven to access the igniter. What I found was that underneath the bottom tray and directly over the igniter is a steel deflector shield. This shield had gotten so hot from the igniter that it had melted a hole through it. The melted steel dripped on the igniter and caused it to burn out. I do believe that this is a defect in the stove and a potential fire hazard. Ge representatives state that this is a normal occurrence and they refuse to cover it as a defect in their product.
