Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160123-80431-2147424400. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Toro Toro Rake and Vac model 51585. Incident: Purchased Toro 724 snow thrower, early 2016. On first startup, it leaked gas on rear of engine. Toro told me it was not normal, but told my repairman (the dealer) it WAS normal. Dealer then called engine mfg. and, over time, received three carburetors which did not provide a fix, and then received a replacement engine, which also leaked gas. Finally, early January 2016, Toro sent a replacement blower, which was started during first seasonal snowstorm January 22, and began to leak gas in such quantities that it emptied the fuel reservoir. This means three different engines for this machine leaked gas. Bear in mind that during a storm, freezing weather, blowing snow, a consumer might very well not notice a leak, and the problem never bee recorded. The blower is a potential bomb, and should be recalled.
