Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160123-8C70F-2147424391. Severity: Unspecified. Matched catalog product: Ryobi model P108; part number 130429075. Source model text: P108. Incident: I have two 18v ryobi batteries where the positive terminal got so hot that the plastic around the terminal began to melt. One of the batteries began to smoke while in use. The battery never shut down on its own so I was not aware of any problem until I began to smell burning plastic. I've owned Ryobi 18v and 49v products for over 10 years and have never had this problem. One battery was purchased on 12/29/14 p/n [REDACTED] and the second battery was purchased on 2//14/2015 p/n [REDACTED]. This battery was the one that almost caught on fire.
