Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160913-50225-2147414199. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: craftsman 247.374320 (Craftsman Lawn Mower with Kohler engine). Incident: Craftsman lawn mower 247.374320 serial number 1F203K10571with Kohler engine developed excessive fuel cap leak after 2 years, now 3 years old. Sears parts say to replace with new cap assembly ($16 with shipping) but it did not fix problem. Filler and cap are poorly designed and failure is a fire safety and emissions issue. If mower has more than 1/4 tank of fuel as much as several ounces of fuel will leak out the fill cap and the filler neck down onto the mower deck during use. Sears parts chat agent says no incidents, then said issues with high heat or sun exposure. I live in Michigan, the mower is stored in an insolated garage, I only mow in the evening and only during the day occasionally when it is cool out in Spring and Fall. Google 247.374320 to see numerous other consumer complaints on the Sears parts web site.
