Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161127-FD0BC-2147410351. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS. Source model text: FGEF3055KFB. Incident: The oven was turned on to 325 degrees to bake cookies. Appx. nine minutes later the door was opened to check on the cookies and they were still raw. Moments later there were large sparks behind the stove and "F10" displayed on the digital readout and a beeping sound was heard. "CANCEL" was pressed numerous times to no avail. The oven instantly became extremely hot and the cookies began burning/smoking. The circuit breakers were manually tripped and the problem was stopped. A lot of smoke was inside the stove from the burning food and a very strong burning plastic smell was emanating from the oven control panel area where the sparks were seen. The stove was pulled from the wall and unplugged. The home was aired out and fortunately there was no fire or smoke damage. In my opinion, if someone had not been standing right next to the stove when this happened, due to the rapid overheating of the stove, a fire would have erupted.
