Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170110-FA935-1621870. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Electrolux GLEQ2152ES1 (Electrolux Dryer Model: GLEQ2152ES1 Serial # XD84011036). Incident: I bought an ElectroIux Dryer Model GLEQ2152ES1, Serial # XD84011036 on 10/25/08. On I 1/13/16 the electrical/control pane1 started on fire and went up in flames, I am lucky that I was home otherwise my whole house would have burned down. I called Electrolux and they told me that they had no recalls on that model and because I bought in in 2008 I had to either get a service tech which would have cost approx. $100 which they were not willing to pay for or they would offer me a 20% discount on a new dryer. I understand that it's the consumers responsibility to fix things that go wrong such as belts, drums, etc ... however, in my opinion an electrical fire is something that went seriously wrong. The fault is obviously with the company. I had my 5 year old granddaughter here that night sleeping over so it could a real disaster. I feel the company should take some accountability for this and anyone else who owns this dryer should be contacted.
