Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170111-AC0CF-2147408232. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Sycom Sycom Model SYC-120/240-T2. Source model text: Supco Model SCM150. Incident: We were dispatched to a home to investigate a possible structure fire. Upon our arrival, we found a SUPCO SCM 150 surge protection device was the cause. While we did not witness active flames, the failure of the device produced sufficient heat to melt the casing of the device as well as inflict thermal damage on an approximate 1 square foot of siding around the unit. There was a smoke stain above the device and the contents of the device were described as dripping out. There was no extension to the underlayment board beneath the siding. Approximate damages not including loss of the surge protector were 200 dollars.
