Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170206-139E1-2147407333. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Microsoft Surface Pro3 1631 (Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet 128 GB 17). Incident: My product is a Microsoft Surface Table, purchased around June 2015. The problem with this product is it will get hot after only being on for a short time. The heat can be so hot you can not touch the back of the tablet. As software upgrades are pushed out to this device, the device will heat up even quicker. Sometimes the table will shut off on it own and sometime it will just stay hot and you can hear the fan running. I reported the issue to Microsoft while the device was under warranty but because their is a small nick on the edge of the table they would not repair the device and refused to address the heat issue. I would like to use the tablet but I'm afraid it will catch on fire. In my research of this product and on one of Microsoft's forums, I found several post where other owners of this make and model have reported having the same heating problems. I sent Microsoft this information to make them aware that on their on user forum site there is an issue with this "lot" of tablets.
