Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170303-A93FE-2147405521. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Whirlpool WFE710HAOASO (Whirlpool Electric Range-Stovetop and Oven). Incident: I am writing to inform you that our Whirlpool electric range is a safety hazard. I would like to know if our model # WFE710HOASO has been recalled. If it hasnt, I believe it should be. The range was new when we purchased our home in April 2014. In June of 2015, we reported an oven fire to Whirlpool due to the lower heating element bursting into flames. I was fortunate to be standing by my range at the time so I quickly turned off the oven and the electricity from the circuit breaker. On March 1, I began preheating my oven on the bake setting. . I soon smelled a hot odor coming from the oven even though there was no food in it. I looked in and found the broiler was on. I made no mistake when I turned on my oven, I turned it to the bake setting, as I had done regularly for 3 years. I immediately turned off the oven and waited for a few minutes and then set it to bake at 350 degrees a second time and the same thing happened (went to broil). The danger is that the temperature the oven reaches on broil with the oven door closed is extremely hot. When someone isnt aware that the oven is even close to this temperature (because it was set to 350) this is a dangerous situation and a hazard! In addition to this new problem, the heating elements on the stove top do not regulate properly and have been malfunctioning for over a year. The heating elements can become extremely hot without changing the setting on the stovetop. An example of this is three nights ago we had some soup on the stove keeping warm on the lowest setting while we ate. The soup was on the stove on the lowest set
