Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170405-0CF1D-2147404622. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Corsair cx750m (Digital modular power supply.). Incident: On 10/20/2014 I purchased a personal computer Power Supply from Newegg.com The Brand is Corsair CX750M .This morning the computer was on at idle and my wife [REDACTED] smelled something burning. When she came into my home office the power supply was on fire. Flames were shooting out the fan vent .Our luck she was home to turn the PC off. Since the flames would have burned the house down. as they were close to the wall. I checked on the internet forums and this has happened to many users of this product. All the company tells you is your warranty period is over and that's that. I would have expected an expensive component like this to at least have a thermal protector to keep it from burning your home. It also caused me to loose the other components in my pc such as the motherboard, video card since all these parts rely on the clean voltage output from the power supply. Expensive incident not counting probable data loss .
