Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170501-2B352-2147403878. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 665.13543N412. Source model text: 665.17489300. Incident: In the later part of the dishwashing cycle ... my wife and I heard a "hissing noise" coming from our kitchen. We immediately went to the kitchen and discovered that the dishwasher was emitting white smoke from the upper right portion of the dishwasher. We also observed a strong odor of something electrical burning within the unit. We tried to cancel the cycle ... but the cancel button did not appear to work. I immediately turned off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher. We left the door to the dishwasher open and aired out the house. The next day I partially disassembled the front door so I could access what I think is called a control board (to the top right). After partially disassembling the control board housing I was able to observe black burn marks in various areas of the control board. Lucky that we were in the house when this happened (and awake). Might have started our house on fire!
