Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170523-6AC4A-2147400275. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore Kenmore model no. 790.80323310. Source model text: 790 7403 3310. Incident: Kenmore Gas Stove Model 790 7403 3310 Serial No. VF34167183. In the process of performing an "oven clean" function as provided for on the stove and in accordance with the owners manual, the plastic trim piece on the oven door and the burner control knobs melted setting off the smoke alarms in the house. The plastic melted and dripped on the floor and into the interior of the oven door. I called Sears and Kenmore to inquire if a safety recall had been issued and to have a service technician examine the gas stove to determine the nature of the failure and to determine if the store would be safe to use after repair. No safety recalls were in the Sears/Kenmore data base. This appears to be a fire hazard.
