Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170525-DDC76-2147400233. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Asus x540s (Asus laptop model # x540s). Incident: So...bought a new Asus laptop. 6 mos. into use the silver sheathing on the charger end that goes into the computer began to fail. By that I mean that an apparent weak spot began to crack. At that point I contacted Asus and they understood my concern and acted as if they were going to replace it. After continued contact on my part over 2 weeks time I was told it was my fault and I would have to buy another plug. I called them again this week as now it is sparking and I have ceased using my laptop. Asus agreed that this is a safety concern but refused any warranty assistance. I know of two other people who have the same issue with their Asus. It's not just me. It's not about the money, it's their disregard for consumer safety. I'll never deal with them again. Personally, I believe this is a design flaw because the plug end is a 90 degree angle and was not thoroughly thought through. How about that for alliteration! I have an old Samsung laptop that has a straight in plug that has never failed and has always felt reliable and safe. I'm afraid the spark will turn into fire, and not just for me. Thank you for listening.
