Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170712-855F9-2147399043. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: GE GE ProfileTM Series 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwa. Source model text: GE Profile. Incident: During regular use of our GE Profile dishwasher, after completing a "normal" cycle without the use of the "heated dry" feature, the washer heated up hot enough to melt many plastic items within. The plastic dripped onto the heating element and filled our house with toxic smoke. The next day the washer door was inadvertently closed (no cycle running) and it began to heat up again, creating more fumes. We had to turn off the breaker to get the heating to stop.
