Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170714-BFB2B-2147398982. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Ryobi Power Tools Ryobi Cordless Jet Fan Leaf Blower Model # P2108 (Ryobi One+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Jet Fan Leaf Blower (Model # P2108, Serial # EU16291D080162)). Incident: Dear Consumer Products Safety Commission: On July 5th I sent Ryobi Tools the following email: Tonight July 5, 2017 my wife was operating our Ryobi One+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Jet Fan Leaf Blower (Model # P2108, Serial # EU16291D080162) that we bought at Home Depot in October of 2016 when the orange plastic fan inside the unit disintegrated into pieces which discharged through the housing and the electric motor started smoking. My wife immediately threw it down and ran. To say the least, she was shaken up, but fortunately not seriously injured. I have been a New Jersey attorney for over 35 years and can tell you this is definitely a defective product - for the exact same reasons as the electric one you previously recalled (MODEL [REDACTED]). You are on Notice, and this defective product should be recalled immediately before anyone gets injured by flying fan pieces or the electric motor catching fire or lithium battery exploding as a result. I just called this in to your 800-860-4050 # (Refer to Customer # [REDACTED]) and your representative told me to take it to a repair center in Somerville or Bound Brook be repaired. That is not acceptable! For the same reasons as you'll see below with your other recall, I demand a replacement; or a full refund for our cost of the blower, the 2 lithium batteries, and the battery charger. I checked in April or May and this unit was NOT of the Model # or in the range of serial #s of blowers being recalled. See Recall Date: March 2, 2017, Recall Number: [REDACTED], One World Technologies Recalls Electric Blowers Due to Laceration Hazard
