Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170717-CE97B-2147398897. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Hoover Wind Tunnel T Series UH70130 (Hoover Windtunnel T Series, Rewind model UH70130 Mfg Code U10A. Residential vacuum with retractable cord mechanism.). Incident: I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel vacuum model UH70130, MFG Code E10A. The retractable cord mechanism does not work correctly and catches the cord or the cord get's stuck when trying to pull it out causing the cord to become frayed/worn in areas and the electrical wires to become exposed. While vacuuming my home on July 10, 2017 I was holding the cord in area where the cord is worn and experienced a small shock while operating the vacuum. I did not have serious injury but obviously concerned so I looked into similar problems with this vacuum and found that other Hoover vacuums have been recalled for same problem, just not my model. I contacted Hoover customer service and was told that the cord damage is just normal wear and tear. My vacuum works just fine other than the defective cord and retractable cord mechanism, which I do not consider normal wear and tear, especially in light of other Hoover product recalls for similar defect.
