Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170720-1EE0D-2147398805. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Charbroil Advantage Series 4 Burner. Source model text: Advantage 4 burner gas grill. Incident: 3 months ago we bought a Char-Broil Advantage 4 burner gas grill. This grill is a fire hazard! We just replaced a grill we'd had for 8 years with this one. We have had several raging fires in it ( we NEVER had a fire in our last grill, ever). After the first time, we cleaned the grill thoroughly and according to instructions-- I'd only cooked on it 5x at that point, so we were surprised to need to. Then we had another fire. Another cleaning. So on. Last night we had ANOTHER FIRE, one that required a fire extinguisher, it was the first cook since I last cleaned it. The grill was spotless when I started the burgers, but the flame is just positioned too close to the bottom and the grease drainage is woefully inadequate; grease collected while I cooked and erupted in flames. My husband used to be a firefighter and he can't believe this design hasn't been recalled! I now see SO MANY reviews online with the same complaint. I called the company and after submitting photos they claim it was my fault because there was too much grease in the bottom of the grill. The only great in the grill was the grease from the burgers I'd been cooking-- I had JUST cleaned it. Plus, I've only cooked on the grill a dozen or so times, and I've cleaned it several. CharBroil created a product that will catch fire if ther is any grease-- which is woefully inadequate for a BBQ grill! I guess the company is waiting for a tragedy or a lawsuit before changing anything.
