Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170722-4FDED-2147398759. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Product: Whirlpool WEG745HOF S (5.8 Cu. Ft. Self-Cleaning Slide-in Gas Convection Range - Stainless Steel). Incident: The Whirlpool Range is used for the preparation of meals....cooking in the home. The piezoelectric igniter for the gas burners rus away and will not stop sparking or attempting to light the gas burners on top or cooking surface of the range, even though the knobs or controls are in the off position. Both my wife and I have suffered strong, serious electric shocks from the stove. The units continue to spark for hours. Unplugging the stove to reset the controls does no good. This has been reported to both Best Buy and Whirlpool who sent out a repairman who did not do anything to repair the stove. Apparently this model stove suffers from sporadic failure in the electronic control system. We have had two episodes of this over the 7 months we have owned the stove.
