Incident narrative
SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170725-9ADC6-1681949. Severity: Injury, Seen by Medical Professional. Product: Amazon.com LLC HSTNN-CBOX HSTNN-181C MU06 MU09 WD548AAWD549AA (laptop_battery NEW for 593553-001 584037-001 HPg6 series g6-1c79nr g6-1c81nr Spare Battery USA ship from USA HSTNN-CBOX HSTNN-181C MU06 MU09 WD548AAWD549AA HSTNN-IB1E N8F6A174 588005-361 593553-HS Amazon Order ID: [REDACTED].). Incident: DO NOT USE THIS BATTERY. THIS BATTERY EXPLODED in our home and caught fire to our furniture, floors, and walls as well as minor injuries to us. This battery was purchased from AMAZON and less than one year old. Out house was only saved because we were there to put ourselves in harms way to stop the fire. THIS BATTERY COMPROMISES THE SAFETY of ANYONE WHO HAD PURCHASED IT, if not for our incident then simply for the unknown. This battery showed no indication of problems for eleven months of standard use until the day it caused multiple explosions. The laptop had not been subject to unusual circumstances and exploded without warning. AMAZON HAS NOT HELPED with this at all and has been completely unwilling to share the manufacturers information with us so that we can file a report with CONSUMER SERVICES. I have spent 6 hours on the phone with Amazon and countless emails with photographic and video evidence on to be run in circles and ignored. Broken promises from AMAZON of even returning my phone call at all. DO NO BUY THIS BATTERY. We are extremely concerned by the possibility of an even worse outcome. We adamantly affirm that the only reason we did not lose out entire house to fire was because of the good fortuned of being home and close enough at the time of detonation to be able to actively save our house.
