Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170917-194BB-2147397396. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: GE JB250DFWW. Incident: Turned on new GE oven (JB250DFWW) to self-cleaning function try to burn off the coatings and "cure" the insulation, etc., as directed. Instructions were to let it self-clean 3-5 hours, but turned it off after approx. 30 minutes because the fumes were unbearable. Now, hours later, it's still bad, with all windows open and fans running. I have a sore throat from being in the kitchen for half an hour. We called the store and asked them to come pick it up because based on this experience, I have no confidence that the fumes will dissipate easily or quickly. If this kind of out-gassing of the insulation material needs to happen, it should happen at the factory, not in people's homes.
