Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170927-D6F74-2147397178. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Washing machine. Incident: Our washing machine was on a lower spin cycle with bedding in it; it was spinning and had 35 minutes left to go. Thankfully my 3-year-old son was playing in the basement and yelled up to me, "fire!". I came running down and the entire basement smelled of burning plastic; I stopped the machine and cleared my son from the area in case it exploded. After a few minutes I opened the lid and a pillow was burning and the entire top part of the washer had exploded. The plastic was shredded and blown out and flying everywhere.
