Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20171108-D9CC4-2147395636. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cub Cadet 13RX90AR056 767-035 (Cub Cadet 1040 LTX). Incident: On Tuesday, October 31, I was using my 2009 Cub Cadet 1040 LTX mower to cut my yard one final time for the season. After cutting my yard, I parked my mower in our garage. I then went to get my truck from the street. As I was backing my truck into the garage I looked in rear view mirror and noticed the my mower engine was completely engulfed in flames! After putting the fire out I noticed that the exhaust manifold had broken loose and had to have been rattling around while I was cutting and the when I stopped the mower the hot exhaust manifold sparked the fire. The damage to the engine is extensive. The plastic shell around the engine is melted, the spindle is melted onto the engine, the spark plug hose and hose hose leading from the exhaust to the air filter has disintegrated. The spark plug is melted into the engine and the exhaust manifold is resting on the inside of the engine. The oil stained the mower and my garage floor and the hood of the mower is now burned and black
