Incident narrative

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20171202-416F7-2147394878. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: LRG4113ST. Incident: In August 2017 I purchased a new LG 30" freestanding gas range (LRG4113st). During the short time since I bought it, twice I noted the gas on with no known reason. I initially blamed myself. However -- and more frightening -- I have twice since accidentally turned on the front right burner as I walked by. The second time, the wrapping on a gift nearby caught fire, and although I quickly extinguished it, these two accidental lighting episodes leave me scared spitless that either I or someone else will have a far greater accident. Clothing easily catches on the oversized and angular knobs. It requires almost no pressure to push the knobs in and turn them. Playing with the knobs to see what was going on, it is clear that it is exceedingly easy to turn on all four burner knobs with an easy swipe of fingers -- no distinct push and turn is required. The fact that the knobs are squared at the corners and are large apparently contributes to clothing catching the knobs easily. That a 'catch' can result so easily in a 'light' is frightful.
